Exploring Physics Majors: How to Choose the Right Path for Your Career
What can you get out of SK's Engineering & CS prep?
From understanding the relative advantages of different coding languages to identifying pre-professional opportunities, our CS students have access to tailor-made advising on their specific CS goals. Our pre-engineering students, on the other hand, have access to engineers from across disciplines, and support in developing skills in critical areas like physics and computer-aided drafting.
That advising is supplemented by a robust set of resources preparing students for relevant APs and academic competitions. For CS students, we provide extensive prep for the AP Computer Science suite and the USA Computing Olympiad (USACO). For engineering students, we identify engineering and design competitions and provide tutoring in subjects like physics and high-level math. With our comprehensive advising and resource suite at their disposal, SK CS and engineering advisees gain the skills to confidence to build big things in college and beyond.
Engineering & CS Advising Team
Our personalized advising sessions offer tailored, one-on-one guidance from experienced advisors who have successfully navigated the computer science or engineering journey themselves. With firsthand experience at institutions ranging from Microsoft to the Harvard Open Access Project, our advisors are well-equipped to provide insights and strategies that are relevant to today’s competitive tech and engineering sectors. Whether you need help identifying the right CS courses, finding internships, or honing your CAD skills, our advisors will work with you to create a customized plan that aligns with your goals.
Finding Relevant Coursework
Navigating computer science and engineering coursework can be challenging, especially when high school offerings are often limited. We help specialize in helping students find coursework beyond their school’s curriculum, including online offerings, dual enrollment options, and community college classes. By exploring these alternative options, students can jump into CS or engineering early, getting a head start on peers who might not start building hard skills until college.
To that end, we work with student mentors and with our tutoring team to ensure that students are not only getting relevant computer science/engineering course advising, but also tutoring and executive function support to excel in those programs. The engineering & CS track doesn't operate in a vacuum; we integrate our pre-major advising with our other SK services to ensure that you're getting the support that you need.
Competition Prep
SK's engineering & computer science track is designed to empower students with the support to excel in prestigious academic competitions like the USA Computing Olympiad (USACO), VEX Robotics, and the Cooper Hewitt National Design Competition. SK provides personalized guidance to help students identify relevant opportunities, hone their skills ahead of competitions, and use competitive settings for personal and academic growth. Whether they are just starting out or aiming to reach the highest levels of competition, our engineering & computer science track will help students on their path towards olympiad success.
Summer Programs and Advising
Especially when in-school opportunities for CS and engineering can be scant, our summer programs advising can be especially important for aspiring engineers and programmers. We have special expertise on helping students with applications to highly competitive summer programs that can give them an invaluable leg up in their hard skills and make them stand out during the college application process.
We've successfully gotten students into prestigious programs like the Columbia Summer High School Academic Program for Engineers (SHAPE), the UC Berkeley Academic Talent Development Program (ATDP), the UC Irvine Biology, Engineering, AI and Medicine (BEAM) program, and more!

"The reason I really chose Berkeley was because I remember having this long conversation with my parents and also Success Koach, and then we decided, you know, this really has all of the great opportunities that I'm looking for."
